Brief

Despite originating as one of my first projects at Temple University, it took nearly 2 years for this piece to be fully realized for the 2018 admissions cycle. First envisioned as an insert in the 2017 admit pack, this brochure would be a vibrant showcase of the culture and energy of Temple’s campus to inspire accepted students to enroll. As the admit pack evolved, this brochure was replaced with an alternative insert, but resurfaced the following cycle with an entirely new goal.

The 2018 admissions cycle ushered in a new strategy for enrollment, following prospective students and their families on a journey from awareness and emotional connection to logistics and deposit. Now slated as the first flagship print piece of the enrollment cycle, the Meet Temple mailer had to pique the interest of prospective families with a dynamic, appealing design to highlight its emotional ethos.

Vision

Revisiting content that had been written for the original iteration, I collaborated with lead content producers to update the piece for its new place in the cycle. With evocative copy that expressed the Temple spirit, the visuals needed to be equally strong. Considering the most fundamental identity of the university, this piece needed to bleed cherry and white. I explored full monotone cherry red, but eventually settled on a more colorful version that could show off the vibrant campus life. Nevertheless, this piece remains rooted in that most essential school color.

For the structure of the piece, I looked to zines and newspapers. I wanted something that eschewed the typical polished feel of a million other college brochures in favor of a more tactile, gritty experience; Temple is not an elitist institution and I wanted this piece to be rooted in that approachability and casual excellence.

Results

The final piece is a celebration of everything that makes Temple unique, and—most importantly—stands out in a pile of recruitment materials from dozens of institutions.

The 4 interior spreads of the brochure take viewers through the key themes that set Temple apart from its peers. Dynamic layouts and imagery give a glimpse of the vibrant campus experience.
